Solihull-based Terra has submitted an Outline Planning Application for 50 homes with extensive landscaping and play facilities, located on the outskirts of the market town of Melksham, West Wiltshire.
The 2.26 ha (5.6 acres) site is bounded by Semington Road – which is on the 403 National Cycle Network – and the A350 Western Way. The site is well served by bus routes and it is also within 10 minutes walking distance of the Train Station, the picturesque banks of the River Avon, and the High Street and Market Place of the Melksham Town Centre conservation area.
The planning application that has been lodged with Wiltshire Council is for 50 high quality dwellings, including a 30 per cent provision of affordable homes. The site is currently unused arable agricultural land. The plans for the scheme also include an access route to a potential second phase of the site, with the wider site offering a total of 4.82 ha of prime sustainable residential development land.
The masterplan has been carried out by architects Banners Gate Ltd, with Tetlow King Planning and ACD Environmental providing supporting documentation.
James O’Shea, Managing Director of Terra Strategic said: “We are excited about the opportunity to create a quality family orientated development in this popular, sustainable town centre location. It’s been identified that 2,240 new homes are required for the town of Melksham by 2026, along with an immediate requirement for around 200 affordable homes as set out in the wider Melksham Housing Register.
“Delivering this scheme will add significant value to the immediate area, with 50 high quality new homes designed around extensive landscaping and children’s play facilities. We look forward to working alongside officers and consultees while the application is being considered.”
The planning application proposes a range of accommodation incorporating one-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom family houses. The homes have been designed with a striking mixture of red, orange and buff brick.
It has been identified that a total of 42,000 new homes are required across the county of Wiltshire by 2026. The market town of Melksham has been earmarked as a key growth spot, due to its highly sustainable combination of excellent public transport, quality amenities and schooling provision. Melksham is 12 miles from Bath and eight miles from Chippenham. The train station provides a direct regular service to Chippenham, with connecting services to Bristol, London and South Wales.
